PDC
The PDC (an Italian acronym for "combustion products" ) is an activated carbon system for the abatement of volatile organic compounds with on site regeneration.The solvent is cyclically adsorbed in one of the two activated carbon beds which the system is composed of. The beds operate at alternate adsorption and cleaning cycles: while the first bed filters the process air, the solvent, previously stored in the second bed, is extracted and burned in a combustor. The products of combustion of these pollutants are then maintained within the regeneration circuit and used for cleaning the bed itself. This patented system of regeneration, using a low oxygen content gas and then virtually inert, reduces at the same time both running costs and dangers of fire of the bed. Steam and nitrogen, used in similar systems, are both supplied fluids and therefore involve higher installation and operating costs.The PDC finds its main use in processes that require high flow intake with low to average pollutant concentrations (200 - 1500 mg/scm) which are incompatible both with direct combustion systems and with activated carbon filters, for the enormous running costs that would follow.
